Risk’s and Benefits

According to the American Psychological Association, “the average person who engages in psychotherapy is better off by the end of treatment than 80 percent of those who don’t receive treatment at all.”

Also, research has shown that when a person schedules their first appointment, it leads to an improvement of their symptoms, due to getting relief. Especially, when a person has been debating to seek therapeutic services, its a relief to know you are a step closer towards working your therapist, and addressing your needs.

Therapy is a process and a journey, where everyone improves at their own rate. In that process you may encounter uncomfortable feelings such as, but not limited to; sadness, vulnerability, guilt, anxiety, and anger. Therapy may bring back painful memories, and disrupt relationships. Things may feel worse before they get better due to working and talking about painful situations, these feelings should only be temporary. For therapy to be successful, the client needs to work toward change. Your psychotherapist is there to assist you on your journey.
